Creativity is what pushes our world forward. Inspiration. Dedication. Innovation. These are the seemingly simple steps to the creative process. The Steps Explained: Inspiration: There is no wrong way to be inspired. Inspiration can be organic, stemming from a personal experience of some sort. A dream, a nightmare, a life experience, or something you happen to stumble upon while trudging through life that elates you enough to create. Or, it can be inorganic; something you systematically seek out that will provide you with the inspiration you know you need to create. ***CAUTION*** Do not think that inorganic inspiration is inferior, rather, think of it as something so profoundly creative that it either sparks, or is a part of a chain reaction in creativity. A goal for any creator should be that his/her work can inspire more creativity. Dedication: Like all great things, creativity will not always come easy. One must be steadfast and true to the art of creation in order to succeed. Innovation: Creativity should try to change, shape, or fix something. This can be small, as in within the scope of the artistic community, or, it can be immense, with the world as its playground. Creativity is being aware of the rules, and knowing when to break them. Any material that has changed the way we act, think, feel, or live is creative. Inventions are creative, because inventions are innovative. Innovation, as we know, is essential to creation. *** Overall, creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing. Creative thoughts without production are just imaginative. To be truly creative, one must be able to convert abstract and imaginative thinking into tangible material. The materials themselves vary as greatly as people do. Television, movies, writings, drawings, sculptures, inventions, paintings, etc. can all be great mediums for expressing creativity.
If something is creative, it should be able to be accurately described as “thought-provoking,” “original,” or both. However, no one will respond to and appreciate anything and everything dubbed creative. There are creative niches that speak to a specific type of person. For example, some people prefer works that confirm their beliefs, others prefer works that challenge them. Some may not understand abstract art, and prefer something more realistic. Above all, creative works should provide inspiration for more creative works; this is how it spreads. Creativity is contagious. Everyone houses some sort of creativity; this is why it spreads so well. Some can channel it regularly and effortlessly, while others are not so fortunate. However, no one is completely creatively inept. All can find some sort of inspiration that speaks loudly enough to them that they can transform it into a creative work. People are good at all different types of creative things. Few are exceptional painters, but maybe you have a knack for comedic sketches. Once you find your creative niche, creativity will flow more freely. Practice makes perfect. Once you start exercising your creativity, you will have no desire to stop. Creativity is a renewable and sustainable resource for our mind and world, and it is of benefit to all that we all harness and explore our individual potential for creativity.
